A TIME OF HOPE

Advent always begins in the cold and wet of November when our spirits are beginning to droop as winter sets in. In the midst of the cold darkness of winter, the Church declares a message of Hope.  We are urged not to loose heart for the Lord has seen our situation and is coming to deliver us from all harm.

Advent is the Church’s spring time. It marks a new beginning when we can start again and build a new and better relationship with God and with our neighbours and friends.

The readings in the liturgy are full of hope as in today’s reading from Isaiah.    The past with all its troubles is gone and we are invited to look forward to a new era of peace.  It may sound a bit fantastic but it expresses God’s will for his people.

This Advent we pray more earnestly than ever for peace especially for the suffering people of Ukraine who face a bleak winter of cold, hunger, and war.  We call out to the Lord, “Come Lord Jesus!” and pray that he will bring peace to all people and fill us with the joy of Christmas.
