A message from Fr Martin:

I simply want to say Hello! And tell you how happy I am to be with you as the new pastor of St. Joseph’s.  Let me first introduce myself. I am Martin Coffey from Ireland. I left home to join the Passionist exactly fifty years ago, on 2nd October, 1972.  So this is a very significant date in my life.

To tell the truth, I have a lot to learn from you because I have never been a pastor in a parish before coming here. I am glad Fr. Aidan is here to help me ease me into the role. I will be relying on his long and rich experience as I take my first baby steps.  I was very happy to meet some of you in August and to get to know something about the life of St. Joseph’s but I still have a lot more to learn.  I enjoyed my time here very much and am really looking forward to meeting you all eventually and working together with you to strengthen our faith and build up the parish community.

Like you, I want St. Joseph’s to be like a second home where everyone feels welcome and we all grow together in faith, hope and love.

Please help me to be a good pastor and tell me what you need and how I can help you.  I am here for one reason only, to help you live your Christian life with joy.  I am confident that with the help of the Holy Spirit we will grow together in our knowledge and love of God and of each other.

I look forward to my time here and pray that my presence will not be an obstacle to anyone and that together we will continue to follow Jesus closely and make our contribution to the building of God’s kingdom on earth “as it is in heaven”.
