Bulletin Notices 9 April 2017

Lenten Project 2017 is dedicated this year to reaching out to people who have fled war and violence. Events in recent days have shown us how deadly attacks are for people sleeping in their own homes. At St Joseph’s, we wish to send out a clear message that we care for all people in peril and that our prayers are raised to God for solutions based on justice and leading to solid peace. We do not have the expertise to address the great numbers who have come to France and especially to Paris. After consultation, we will offer support to three organisations:

  1. La Fondation Notre Dame
  2. Secours Catholique Caritas France
  3. Order of Malta France.

As every year since coming to St Joseph’s, your generosity is amazing. This year is no exception. This Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday will be the final collections at all the Masses. Donations for tax relief can be made to A.D.P. and marked ‘Lenten Project’. After Easter, the total will be divided into three and sent at once to the three groups listed above. Thanks to the Pastoral Council for their assistance in discerning this path.

Penance Service this Tuesday at 8 p.m. in preparation for Holy Week and Easter.

Post-Confirmation Group met last Sunday at 9.30 a.m. It is my privilege to be part of the discussions of these young people and their families, who are supportive of being with them on the continuing journey of faith. Some commentators, perhaps unkindly, wonder if Confirmation is an exit from rather than a mature commitment to Church. At St Joseph’s, this never was nor ever will be acceptable. Post-confirmation group, revived in recent years, take a topic for discussion each month – last Sunday we had a sharing on prayer and next month we will explore reading and praying the Bible. A great need is – YOUNG PEOPLE to join us – email to Janet This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

This little boost is not meant to create a ‘hierarchy’ of importance. We are truly blessed at St Joseph’s with a rich outreach to people of all ages on our journey of faith. Next meeting, Sun 23 April at 9.30 a.m.

Pastoral Council Meeting 20th March 2017: 13 of us gathered in a spirit of common purpose to review and develop our beloved St Joseph’s. In a spirit of prayer, a positive feedback was received on Praise/Worship the previous day. A huge effort went into preparing. Next Praise/Worship, on Sun 15 Oct. Support for the Lenten Project in favour of refugees was recognised. Church bells rang out across the world last weekend to counter antipathy to the plight of refugees. Lenten Retreat, Ash Wed Masses with ACWO soup lunch, Friday Mass and Stations, St Patrick’s Day Mass and reception, Fatima Pilgrimage in May, Women’s, Men’s Spirituality gatherings, YAM, RCIA, Marriage Course, and other items were reviewed. People in numbers coming to St Joseph’s is a blessing and goes against the trend in some parishes. Being called to mission, we could invite one ‘new’ person to experience worship at any of the 5 weekend Masses. If this leads to needing an extra Mass or an additional priest – let us trust in God.

RCIA: 11 a.m. Mass last Sunday, 1st Scrutiny of Candidates for Sacraments of Initiation at Easter were welcomed and will be with us again at 12.30 p.m. Mass today for the 2nd Scrutiny. The 3rd and final Scrutiny will be at 11 am next Sunday. It was a joy to see many people for the 11 a.m. Mass last Sunday.
