Baptism is God’s most beautiful and magnificent gift… The sacrament is called Baptism after the central rite by which it is carried out: to baptize means to “plunge”; the “plunge” into the water symbolizes the catechumen’s burial into Christ’s death, from which he rises up by resurrection with him, as “a new creature”.

(2) I am the light of the world, says then Lord; the man who follows me will have the light of life. (3) I am the way, the truth, and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father, except through me. (4) One Lord, one faith, one baptism. One God, the Father of all. (5) Our Savior Jesus Christ has done away with death, and brought us life through his gospel. (6) You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy people. Praise God who called you out of darkness and into his marvelous light.
