St Joseph’s Church in August: It is difficult to put into words the pain and sufferings of people in Beirut. Already suffering from economic issues, the people of Lebanon now face a near impossible task of rebuilding their city and restoring hope. But these are resilient people who have been honed on the anvil of suffering during a prolonged civil war. The French President was the first world leader to go to Beirut and see for himself the massive destruction. The needs of these people are multi-layered and will take real leadership on the ground to help people recover anything like a normal life. COVID-19 will still be there threatening with more suffering and death.
Last week also saw another loss – that of a prophet and worker for peace – John Hume was buried in his native Derry on Wednesday. May he rest in peace.
YouTube relay of Mass was absent during the week. I offer sincere apologies for this lack. Great work was done to get it up and running and I am most grateful for that. In September it is hoped to upgrade this important outreach.  Aidan, C.P.
